What is the difference between Zendesk and Freshdesk?
Zendesk and Freshdesk are both per-agent help desks that pull email, chat, messaging and phone into one ticket queue, with a knowledge base and an AI agent. The difference is price and depth. Freshdesk is cheaper at every plan level we compared. Zendesk includes more on each plan, such as telephony and AI agents from Suite Team, and goes further on routing, operations tools and add-ons for large teams.
Prices below are per agent a month, billed annually unless marked, from each vendor’s pricing page on 29 October 2026. We make Supahelp, a third option covered at the end.
| Feature | Zendesk | Freshdesk |
|---|---|---|
| Email ticketing only | Support Team $19 ($25 monthly) | Growth $19 |
| With live chat and messaging | Suite Team $55 ($69 monthly) | Omni Growth $29 |
| Middle tier | Suite Professional $115 ($149 monthly) | Pro $55; Omni Pro $79 |
| Top tier | Suite Enterprise, by quote | Enterprise $89; Omni Enterprise $119 |
| Knowledge base | From Suite Team | Every plan |
| AI agent for customers | 5 resolutions per agent a month included, then $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go | 500 free sessions once per account, then $49 per 100 |
| AI assistant for agents | Copilot, $50 per agent | Freddy AI Copilot, $29 per agent, Pro and up |
| Phone | Telephony on Suite plans | Voice add-on, $15 to $69 per agent |

Which is cheaper, Zendesk or Freshdesk?
Freshdesk, at list prices. For email-only ticketing both start at $19 an agent. Once you need live chat and messaging, Freshdesk’s Omni plans, which add those channels, start at $29 an agent against Zendesk Suite Team at $55. The gap widens with AI, because Zendesk bills each automated resolution past a small allowance while Freshdesk bills sessions at about $0.49 each.
The table assumes a team whose AI handles 500 conversations a month and resolves 300 of them, on the plan each vendor needs for live chat. Zendesk is shown at pay-as-you-go rates. Freshdesk is shown after its 500 free sessions are used.
| Team | Zendesk Suite Team | Freshdesk Omni Growth |
|---|---|---|
| 3 agents | $165 + $570 = $735 | $87 + $245 = $332 |
| 10 agents | $550 + $500 = $1,050 | $290 + $245 = $535 |
| 25 agents | $1,375 + $350 = $1,725 | $725 + $245 = $970 |
Committed Zendesk resolutions at $1.50 lower its column by $88 to $143. Adding the agent copilot to every seat adds $50 an agent on Zendesk and $29 on Freshdesk, which also needs the Pro plan for it. Full breakdowns are in Zendesk pricing and cost per AI answer.
Where Zendesk is stronger
- More in each plan. Suite Team includes AI agents, the knowledge base, messaging, live chat and telephony. On Freshdesk, phone is an add-on.
- Routing and operations. Suite Professional adds skills-based routing, an IVR phone tree and admin copilot. Enterprise adds intelligent triage, auto assist, approval workflows and a sandbox.
- Add-ons for large teams. Copilot, a workforce engagement bundle and a contact center product sit on top of the Suite.
Where Freshdesk is stronger
- Lower prices. Every published plan, email-only or omnichannel, costs the same as or less than Zendesk’s nearest equivalent.
- Knowledge base on every plan. Freshdesk Growth includes a customer portal and knowledge base. Zendesk’s starts at Suite Team.
- Cheaper AI per conversation. Sessions cost about $0.49 against $1.50 to $2.00 per Zendesk resolution. Sessions are charged whether or not the AI resolves the conversation, though.
Which should you choose?
- Choose Zendesk if you run a large or fast-growing team across phone, chat and email, and need advanced routing and workforce tools.
- Choose Freshdesk if you want most of the same channels and a knowledge base for less, and can add phone as a paid extra.
- Choose neither if you are a small SaaS team whose support is mostly repeat questions plus a queue of bugs and requests. A flat-rate tool costs the same at 3 or 25 agents. Supahelp, for example, is $64 a month billed annually for unlimited staff, with a help center, request forms and AI replies a teammate approves. It has no phone or live chat, so it does not replace either tool for a phone-heavy team.
