The short answer

Pick a SaaS help desk by where customers ask for help. Intercom suits in-product chat, Help Scout suits email, Plain suits B2B support in Slack, and Supahelp suits a help center with AI replies at one flat price. Then compare the cost at the team size you expect in a year.

What a SaaS help desk needs

SaaS support is different from retail or IT support in three ways. Customers ask how to use the product, so a searchable help center does a lot of the work. Many requests are bug reports or feature requests that end up with engineers. And for B2B products, the customer is an account with several users, sometimes in a shared Slack channel. The best tool is the one that matches how your customers reach you.

Prices are from each vendor’s pricing page, checked on 29 and 30 October 2026. We make Supahelp, which is on this list.

The nine tools

1. Intercom

Intercom puts a chat window inside your product, with Fin answering first and your team behind it. Seats are $29, $85 or $132 billed annually, and Fin is $0.99 per outcome. Early-stage startups can apply for a large discount. See Intercom pricing.

2. Help Scout

Help Scout is a shared inbox with live chat, messaging and knowledge bases. Its Plus plan groups conversations by company and connects to Salesforce, Jira and HubSpot, which B2B teams tend to want. A free plan covers five users.

3. Plain

Plain is built for B2B support across Slack, email and in-app channels, with Linear and Jira integrations, a help center and AI agents. Foundation is $45 per user a month billed annually for up to five seats, and Horizon is $99 for three to ten. Its AI agent uses credits, about $1 per resolution once the included credits run out, and Plain runs a startup program at 50% off.

4. Pylon

Pylon also targets B2B support and lists an MCP server and AI agents on its pricing page. Seats are $89 or $139 on an annual contract, and AI usage is billed in credits. It suits larger account-based teams more than a three-person startup.

5. Supahelp

Supahelp combines a public help center, request forms for bug reports, questions, feature requests and feedback, and a request queue. Its AI answers customers from your articles, and Supa drafts replies to requests that a teammate approves. Essential is $64 a month billed annually for unlimited staff, and the Free plan covers one staff member. There is no live chat, phone or Slack channel support.

6. Zendesk

Zendesk is the most complete option for a large support team, with phone, chat and email in one queue and advanced routing on higher plans. Suite Team starts at $55 per agent billed annually, with AI resolutions billed on top. See Zendesk pricing.

7. Freshdesk

Freshdesk covers most of the same channels for less: Omni Growth is $29 per agent billed annually, and every plan includes a knowledge base. Our Zendesk vs Freshdesk comparison works through the costs.

8. Jira Service Management

If every bug report ends up as a Jira issue anyway, Jira Service Management puts a customer portal in front of the same system. It is free for up to three agents.

9. Featurebase

Featurebase started with public feedback boards and roadmaps and now includes an inbox, tickets and a help center. It fits teams where feature requests are most of what customers send.

Which help desk fits your stage

  • Before your first support hire: a free plan from Help Scout, Supahelp or Jira Service Management, plus a help center with your top 20 answers.
  • Two to ten people answering: compare per-seat tools with flat-rate ones, because the gap grows with every hire. See flat-rate help desks.
  • B2B accounts in shared Slack channels: Plain or Pylon, which are built around that.
  • Phone and many channels at volume: Zendesk or Freshdesk.
